This looks like the closest thing yet to a real-life holodeck! The Virtusphere is (as the name suggests) a large hollow sphere which sits on a set of computer monitored wheels. This allows the sphere to rotate a complete 360º whilst still allowing the computer to track the movments. For more information please visit www.hack247.co.uk

i think either idea is not viable idea, for in game movement, maybe just use a control stick, instead of any walking…

@Jshaw71 If you have unlimited space in your room then that is a viable solution.

just use a full body suit that has sensor that track body movement, it would be better than being in a hamsterball… not the best idea, thanks but no thanks…

@pc617
I still don’t classify this as “Virtual Reality” though.
Even if what you say is true, don’t you think its funny how he makes a full 180 without turning around or anything inside the ball?
I mean…it would be a ball for a reason… “To be able to move in all directions”
And what about the strafing. All he does is walk forward slowly inside it…Sorry but I don’t buy the excuse of “lag”
if it was video lag, he would have turned around inside the ball at some point.

i know man, but you can, they said they can make it compatible for any game/game system. halo 3 or modernwarefare 2 would be soooo kickass on it.

The sphere is outdated..now you can get an omni directional treadmill.

This is pretty cool but the guy seems to be sort of losing his balance alot. Not good for FPS games

Cool stuff, I have a much more consumer style VR setup
Check mine out in my vids
You can play halo or fallout or any pc game with it, I played it with morrowind for a demo.

I got to use one of these at Wired Nextfest ’08. It was a really cool idea, but in reality, it far under delivers. The problem is, you constantly feel like the ground is coming out from under you, since the ball spins so freely, and you have to be careful not to lose your balances. There is a reason giant hamster balls are hard to use.
